CBT + ACT
for Anxiety and OCD
My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), along with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) when appropriate for OCD and anxiety.
These approaches are evidence-based, but therapy itself should still feel human, collaborative, and individualized.
We may work on changing patterns that are keeping anxiety going. What are you NOT doing because anxiety is holding you back? We may practice approaching situations you've been avoiding. We may look closely at the ways you respond to intrusive thoughts, uncomfortable emotions, physical sensations, or uncertainty. We will likely explore patterns of thinking and consider changing unhelpful patterns.
And we will pay attention to something larger: What do you want your life to be about? The goal isn't perfect emotional control. It isn't to eliminate every anxious thought or guarantee that nothing bad will happen.
It's to develop greater psychological flexibility—the ability to experience anxiety, uncertainty, and difficult thoughts while continuing to move toward the people, activities, responsibilities, and experiences that matter to you.
